The Story Behind This Photo #

I was visiting the city of Hyvinkää, Finland around Xmas of 2021. Since it is home to the Finnish Railway Museum, I wanted to see what kind of photo opportunities the old railroad yard from 1870 would offer me. In 2021, I had acquired my trusty Nikkor 16-35mm, which is an excellent lens for architectural photography. I was still getting used to the lens and how to work with it without creating crazy distortions that cannot be fixed in post process.

Even if the weather wasn’t the best possible, an overcast drizzle, I think this image works well in black and white, since it puts emphasis on the interesting structures of the railroad yard and the museum main building. In a sense the picture displays a progression from 1870 to the present day, since the juxtaposition of the new buildings in the background play with the curvature of the main building.

Ideal Use for This Image #

I think this image is definite mancave material, especially if you’re into all-things-locomotive. If you’re history or architecture enthusiast, you might also want to use this image as your desktop wallpaper or why not hang a framed print in your study.
